Fitness Post: Tone It Up, Girls!

Happy Monday everyone!

For those of you who know me or have been following Nikki's Scrapbook, you know that I love food.  Did you know that I also love fitness???  I admit, it's been a while since I hit the gym.  You know how it is, life happens, you get busy with "stuff", and before you know it you're ** pounds heavier!  How the heck did that happen?!  Long gone were my days of pilates, running club, spinning class, and core ball workouts.  After my big food blowout on my birthday, I decided it was time to get serious about losing weight, shaping up, and changing my eating habits.  New job, new relationship, new apartment, why not new recipes, a new body, and a new healthy lifestyle?  Now I just needed some inspiration... The picture on my fridge of the model with my dream body (her face covered by a magnet of course) and my food mantra of "Lean, clean, and green.  Less is more.  Think BIKINI." was a start, but I needed more inspiration and some structure since my will power was lingering around, oh on a scale of one to ten, a ZERO.

That's when I discovered Karena and Katrina of!  This site is an incredible source of motivation and inspiration!  The workouts are both fun and challenging, the recipes taste great, the gear is cool, and the community is inspiring.  All this while maintaining a cool, laid-back, surfer-girl vibe.  Gnarly.  Definitely a new era of fitness.  Not your mother's dull studio workout VHS.  K & K post a weekly workout schedule every Sunday, and continuously post new workout videos and printables, recipes, and motivational stories throughout the week.  I haven't tried the nutrition plan yet, but I'm working up to it.  I've lost about half my extra weight so far, so I figured I would hold myself accountable here on the blog.  Anyone else have a fitness goal that you are striving towards, or have already accomplished?  Additional inspiration is always welcome!

And you don't have to run it alone!  Last night my love and I ran for about an hour then I completed a booty workout.  (Check out this booty workout playlist from!  I especially like the Malibooty Workout.)  I think we have established a new nightly routine: sweat-inducing, muscle-building workout and a protein fruit smoothie!  Yum!  And a few weeks ago we completed the longest bike ride of my life (um...30 MILES?!?!).  Currently, my favorite smoothie is simple and delish!  Try blending bananas, nectarines, vanilla whey protein powder, coconut/almond milk. and ice cubes in a blender until frothy and enjoy!  I want to try this recipe for a guilt-free milkshake from Beach Babe Fitness.  A milkshake replacement?  I'll be the judge of that.
